 | 01:33 am - sa04 is studying for midterms O hai, story I haven't written in awhile.
Now that NaNoWriMo is over, I'm done being horribly ill, I've moved into my new place, my vacation is done, and things are resuming a nice pattern... it's time to get back to anachronauts. This chapter was VERY hard to outline, because I had no actual ideas beyond "some kind of Harry Potter parody". According to the poll I ran, this is what you guys wanted to see (although Los Muertos and the lunar adventure are coming too).
Eventually, I managed to get a plot together, one which goes beyond just making fun of Hogwarts and actually delivers an anachronauts flavored experience that furthers my various plot points. Hope you like it.

 | 10:12 pm - How to make clothes in Second Life tutorial – with Photoshop. Hey everyone! I spent the past few days putting together a helpful tutorial about how to make clothing textures in second life by use of photoshop! I use to have the artcile on my old website, but it was lost when we took it down. But I have revised and rewritten, posting it up on my offical blog, Piper Shan Designs. Take a peek if you are interested!
Tutorial can be found here! Current Mood: cheerful

 | 02:28 pm - Happy Solstice Yesterday my Warcraft main, Roszfianna, made Merrymaker. I was very jazzed as I had been working hard on it and I thought I had one more quest to go (but found it wasn't required for the meta). Yay.
Then I headed off to the NROOGD open sabbat. It was a lovely way to bring in the season. The ritual was nice and there were many friends with whom to touch base. Driving to Oakland did bring to light that my shoulder is still not fond of driving. *sigh*
Driving to work today reinforced that learning. *double sigh* And it isn't as if I get any time off work since I don't work Fridays anyway. But tonight I have a massage (which my jet-lagged & sore body will appreciate) and then off to a Yule vigil. Life is pretty darn good!
Have I mentioned that my Parliament photos are at http://www.flickr.com/photos/rowanf/sets/72157622988537908/ and my Adelaide set at http://www.flickr.com/photos/rowanf/sets/72157623010604830/ ? I don't see that I have.

 | 05:23 pm - Tips for a new merchant? Greetings all! I'm a new builder and seller in Second Life, and would love to hear any tips from more experienced merchants for someone just starting out as I am.
I have spent a few months figuring out building before I was confident enough to start selling my wares seriously. I have previous Photoshop experience, and have been using it to my advantage as far as textures and such.
I am still very very shakily starting out though, and have not managed to sell much either in world or via xstreet. Granted my items have been for sale only a couple of weeks so I can't expect miracles. Today I paid the 899L fee to feature one of my better items in the hopes that the exposure will help. Fingers crossed, as I can only afford to feature it for 7 days unless things start selling.
I would love to know how any of you other merchants started out, your experiences, your trials and tribulations. Anything that may be useful for myself, and two of my friends who are also just starting out as new merchants.
I should note, I am not expecting to make a lot doing this. I just want to be able to cover my own costs so that I can continue to make things. My ultimate goal is to make affordable (but not under priced to the point of hurting the market) items, that people enjoy.
Thanks so much for your time. :)
Edit: If anyone wants to see what I'm trying to sell and maybe suggest either ways to improve my items, my marketing, or whatever, here is my xstreet addy: https://www.xstreetsl.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&MerchantID=529960
I am currently in the process of setting up in a new (roomy!) main store so I don't have an in-world link quite yet. (Well I do, there just isn't any of my stuff in the building yet) Current Mood: hopeful

 | 12:21 pm - When I'm 34 I always seem to neglect my blog when I'm on vacation. Huh.
It hasn't been a very PRODUCTIVE vacation, in a creative sense. We did get the house 90% set up and I've settled in nicely, which I suppose counts as productivity. Last night I did outline sa04, but I wish I'd done that days ago, so I'd have time to work on it before it's back to the grind at the office. Ah well.
Also on the 'meh' list, it's my birthday. I'm 34 now. I dislike getting older. I'm past the point where media is really aimed at me -- it's all about youth and rebellion and living it up in that core 18-25 bracket where everything is happening and stuff is awesome and so on. After that point you're pretty much expected to shut up, sit down, cycle your days through your career, and eventually end up a grey-haired murder suspect on Law & Order.
Still, I can't complain about my QoL. The new layout is spectacular, and I've got plenty of awesomeness around me which I can pick up and goof off with at a moment's notice. Once I get back in the writing seat (which I delayed on owing to massive illness and busyness moving in) that itch will be scratched, as well. So it's not like I think the future's gonna suck, or that I hate my life. It just gets on my nerves when once a year I'm reminded of how far I'm drifting away from my youth. A minor complaint when you look at the larger scope, but a harsher one on the local scale of a single day out of the year.
So. Yeah. Happy birthday to me, dammit.

 | 07:20 pm - Just life notes Thursday was my quiet day. Slept and read and played WoW. I am really not getting over my jet lag this time. Bah.
Today I had my follow-up visit with my doctor who thinks I'm doing fine for five weeks. Of course then he said "If you are still hurting in four months I'll worry." Gah! If I'm hurting in another four weeks I'll worry. And he says do take my meds. I really hate taking lots of pills. I'd rather be in nagging pain up to a point. *sigh* And yes, I've always been like this.
I did some grocery shopping and then met Russell at the Camera Cinemas 3:20 show of Avatar 3D. There are things I could cavil about, but wow, James Cameron and most of the big effects houses on the planet sure can create the eye candy. I want to go back and see it again but not in 3D just to see the difference. /me sits on her hands and gives no spoilers.
We stopped at Hawgs and had appetizers and drinks. I always forget how bloody expensive that place is, given the total lack of ambiance. On the way out a passing woman in the dark (I didn't see her at all) asked me for $2 for food. I said, "Sorry, all I have is a $5, that will have to do and gave it to her." She was amazingly grateful which made me feel awful. It is so little, I just paid $8.99 for a drink that tastes like key lime pie. But then she had to say "God bless you". Why do they always do that? I try to just accept it as a blessing but somehow in the context of panhandling it just squicks me.
I was supposed to have coven Yule tonight but things go complicated amongst my covenmates and we're just going to try and hit the public one on Sunday. I have managed to wrap exactly one present so far. I am fail at Yule this year. Too much going on!
